How To Hide Blemishes, or Worse With Makeup

Blemishes and other skin irritations can really ruin your day. Especially if you have a big event to attend or a date to go on. There are a couple makeup tricks you need to know in order to not feel held back by your imperfections, and take control of them.

1. Wash your Hands

Before touching your face, make sure you thoroughly wash your hands. Dirt and oil will only make the blemish worse and help it hang around on your face a lot longer.

2. Choose a Concealer

When choosing a concealer to cover your blemish, make sure you test it on your wrist first to be sure it matches your skin tone. Concealer is a creamier foundation makeup with added pigments intended for specific parts of your face. Pick a yellow tinted concealer to hide redness from the blemish. If you are trying to cover a dark spot on your skin, choosing a lighter concealer is ideal. If you are hiding dark circles under your eyes, a green concealer works best.

3. Choose a Masking Concealer

A masking concealer is a thicker, creamier concealer with added pigment to help cover larger problem areas like scars, large pimples and skin irregularities.

4. Apply

Apply concealer over your blemish using your finger tip, eye shadow brush or sponge. Rub gently and be extra careful not to apply to much pressure if you are trying to conceal a pimple. Applying to much pressure may cause the pimple to pop, and spreading the oil from the blemish around on your face will cause you to break out. Once you have carefully covered all of your blemishes, you can apply the masking concealer to your whole face and neck. Blend the edges by moving your fingers in a circular motion on the skin. Set your masking concealer by applying an oil- free foundation over top. Again, apply this in a circular motion over your entire face. When you are finished, apply a powder foundation to finish the look.

5. Removal and Skin Maintenance

This is the most important part of your skin care routine, especially if the blemishes you are covering are acne pimples. Use a gentle cleanser to remove all the dirt and oil from your skin before going to bed and apply a thick moisturizer. To help with dark circles under your eyes, apply a wet tea bag on your eyes for about 10 minutes. You can also put two spoons in the freezer and apply those to your eyes for 5 minutes.

This seems like a lot of work to hide your blemishes and imperfections but once you have the beauty routine down pat, you will be able to complete it quickly before you leave the house. It may take a bit of practice to get the blending right, but once you have perfected the process you will not have to worry about how your skin looks before any big event or day to day activities.
